The Background

Despite the issue, the elevator remained functional. If the elevator had continued to be operated, significant wear from a constantly active brake would have likely required a complete replacement of the elevator motor. Instead, operators shut down the elevator and replaced the broken bolt.

In addition to equipment replacement, addressing the problem immediately helped maintain tenant safety and comfort in the building. By de-commissioning the elevator before an emergency shutdown, operators ensured that tenants would not be stuck in the elevator.
