Facilities maintenance management encompasses a range of processes required to ensure that the building systems perform as originally designed and constructed.
Why it’s Important
The scope of facilities management and maintenance includes both planned preventive and predictive maintenance as well as repairs. Commercial Preventive Maintenance (PM) consists of a series of time-based maintenance requirements that provide a basis for planning, scheduling, and executing scheduled (planned versus corrective) maintenance.
Predictive Maintenance attempts to detect the onset of a degradation mechanism with the goal of correcting the degradation prior to significant deterioration in the component or equipment.
Requirements will vary from building to building and especially among asset types. As the complexity of building systems increase, facilities management and maintenance should adapt in size and complexity to ensure that mission performance is sustained.
