What is Building Performance?

Definition

Building performance is a data-driven assessment of the operational efficacy of a property.

Why it Matters

Building performance goes beyond a simple energy efficiency metrics. It is determined by implementing an iterative process in which you continually assess how your building is performing, what is driving that performance, and what you can do to influence it.

This includes utility efficiency, but also maintenance and repairs, staff and vendor management, and purchasing decisions.

The traditional process to achieve this is time consuming, manual, and often gets deprioritized in favor of more pressing tasks.

As such, new technologies, namely Internet of Things sensors and cloud computing have enable building owners and operators to perform a building performance analysis continuously to ensure continued optimization without the additional costs of extra audits.
