What is Energy Management Systems?

Definition

Energy management systems, or EMS, is software that is used to track energy management, including utility bill tracking, real-time metering, equipment management, and a variety of other things. Energy management software can be utilized to reduce energy related costs and consumption for buildings.

Why it Matters

The software is used to collect energy data and uses that data for reporting, monitoring, and engagement. Reporting includes verifying energy data, monitoring includes tracking energy consumption, and engagement includes maintaining dialogue between building managers and tenants regarding energy consumption, using either automated or manual messaging. By using the information gathered through energy management software, data analytics can be used to determine how to optimize energy consumption patterns and ultimately save money on energy cost.
